When considering warehouse shelving solutions, there is a surprising number of things to consider. It may seem like shelving is shelving, but different kinds of shelving have different benefits and optimal use cases.
Carton live storage, for example, is great for specific applications, but may not be the best option for others. Let’s explore the best use cases for carton live storage and help you decide if it’s right for your warehouse.
What Is Carton Live Storage?
Often just shortened to CLS, carton live storage is the carton version of pallet live storage. In both cases, pallets or cartons (depending on the storage solution) are stored on inclined rollers. Life storage systems are loaded from the back, and items stored on them are automatically fed to the front via the roller and gravity. This means that when an item is picked from the from of a carton live storage system, the next carton automatically slides down to fill its space.
Since CLS systems are stocked from the back, they’re a first in, first out storage systems. This allows for good stock rotation and ensures stock doesn’t spoil on shelves.
Carton Live Storage Allows For Fast And Easy Picking With High Density
Since cartons stored on CLS shelving automatically slide to the front, picking of items is very fast because warehouse workers don’t need to reach to the back of shelves to get items, nor do they have to worry about keeping a shelf tidy for the next worker. Once a carton is picked, the next one is ready right away.
Going further, CLS systems are higher density than standard shelving. Normal shelving has a naturally can’t go any deeper than how far workers can reach. CLS shelving on the other hand can be as deep as it needs to be. This ultimately saves space and allows for denser storage of goods.
Rear Loading Has Many Benefits
Since carton live storage is loaded from the back, it’s naturally a first in, first out storage system. This is a great benefit to CLS systems, but being a FIFO storage solution isn’t the only good thing about loading goods from the back.
Since cartons are being loaded onto CLS shelving in a different place from where picking is happening, it means workers can be picking goods at the front of the shelving while other workers are loading the shelving on the other side. This is another great time save that ensures workers aren’t waiting for a task to be done so they can access a part of the warehouse.
Carton Live Storage Is Easy To Modify
Any good storage system needs to be modifiable to meet the needs of the person using it, and the CLS systems we supply can be easily modified. The standard modification is to adjust the angle of the rollers to allow for faster or slower carton rolling. While having a fast roll is great, this may not be suitable for fragile items. So we adjust the rollers to be the optimal speed for the situation.
Additionally CLS systems can be installed in a variety of situations and places to suit a business’ storage requirements. This includes installing carton live storage on a rack supported mezzanine level or even with pallet racking installed above the CLS shelving.
Integrate Carton Live Storage Into Your Warehouse
If you think carton live storage could be useful for your warehouse, we’re happy to talk to you about it and provide some advice. Carton live storage tends to work in situations where stock levels are high enough to warrant the additional storage density it provides and where there is some need to stock rotation. If your warehouse has a different situation, there’s likely a warehouse storage solution that suits your needs, and we’re helping to help you find it.
