Selective racking gives direct access to every pallet in your warehouse. It isn’t as dense as other systems. However, it’s the most versatile all-round option.
With drive-in racking, forklifts drive into the system itself to load and retrieve pallets. As a result, you get dense storage that suits large volumes of the same SKU, where selectivity matters less.
Double deep racking stores pallets two deep. To reach the back row, forklifts use extra-long reach arms. In this way, it strikes a good balance between selectivity and density.
Narrow aisle racking takes a selective layout and shrinks the aisles, so you fit more pallets into the same floor space. Because the aisles are tighter, you’ll need specialised handling equipment. Still, narrow and very narrow aisle racking is a great option when you need both selectivity and density.
Push-back racking is a dense, fast way to store pallets. Each pallet sits on inclined runners. When you retrieve the front pallet, the one behind it slides forward automatically. That makes it ideal when you hold many pallets of the same SKU.
Pallet live storage runs pallets on rollers, so you load at one end and unload at the other. As a result, you get dense storage with true first in, first out stock rotation.
The Colby Rapid Runner places pallets on carts that travel along each lane. Because the carts can be automated or semi-automated, retrieval is fast and easy. It’s ideal when you store large numbers of pallets across only a few SKUs.
Storing items bigger than a standard pallet? We can modify existing racking or configure Colby racking to suit the size of your loads.
Colby systems can also hold non-palletised items such as pick bins, parts and loose stock. For example, you can set up picking levels at floor height, with pallet storage above.
Need to store long items that a forklift still has to reach? Cantilever racking is a strong option for piping, timber, wire and similar stock.
In Australia, steel storage racking is covered by AS 4084-2023. Under this standard, a competent person should inspect your racking at least every 12 months. In addition, each bay needs load signs that show its safe working load.
