The Australian Standard AS 4084:2023 requires all pallet racking to be seismically rated. Colby pallet racking is designed and engineered to withstand seismic events, in line with the standard.
Colby pallet racking is designed for seismic situations.
When an earthquake happens, the ground (and therefore the pallet racking) is moved horizontally. This movement is transmitted to pallets stored on the racking an can create rocking, damaging pallet racking or causing it to collapse.
In order to avoid damage or collapse due to a seismic event, down aisle bracing at the back of the racking isn’t used. Normal uprights can be used instead, simply in larger than standard sizes.
Another seismic design point is the use of seismic baseplates and chemical anchors. These additions made during pallet racking installation help in seismic situations by resisting uplift forces and keep the pallet racking stable. Again, this helps reduce damage to pallet racking during earthquakes.
If you’re installing or moving pallet racking, AS 4048:2023 requires that it’s seismically rated for the area it’s installed in. This may mean many seismic considerations, or it may mean a few. We have the expertise to assist.
