It’s important to stay safe in the warehouse, especially around pallet racking. Warehouse pallet racking holds large amounts of weight and, if not installed properly, is damaged, or overloaded, it can collapse. This collapse can lead to injury or even death. So, with the start of the new year, it’s important to think about safety. The start of the year is a good time to remind everyone about workplace safety while also checking over the safety of the workplace itself, including the pallet racking.

Here are some tips to stay safe in 2026.

Book Your Pallet Racking Inspection

A pallet racking inspection is required every 12 months. If you missed your inspection in 2025, book one immediately. If you had a pallet racking inspection in 2025, find out when it was and set a reminder to book your next one when it’s due.

A pallet racking safety inspection looks for damage and wear and tear. It then outlines any repairs that need to happen in order to certify the racking for another year. This is the bare minimum that needs to happen in order to keep pallet racking safe. It’s a good first step to avoiding accidents in the warehouse.

Review Issues From Last Year

Every business does it. At the end of the year, bosses and employees think “we’ll do it when we return next year,” then it never happens. Whether it’s something to do with your pallet racking or another general warehouse safety concern, make sure you get to it early in 2026, otherwise you’ll continue to put it off.

Much of the time, these issues that we put off aren’t urgent, until they are. So don’t let them wait and become a problem.

Inspect Your Own Pallet Racking

While reviewing everything for the year, have a quick inspection of your pallet racking yourself. While this is no substitute for a professional pallet racking inspection, warehouse managers are often able to find problems with their racking that may cause a safety concern. Get on these concerns quickly before you’re forced to, or before they cause an accident.

These are things like visible damage or corrosion, overloading, and twisting. If a warehouse manager can notice it easily, it’s certainly unsafe.
